Dr. Shirin Esmail was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary and then moved to the United States to pursue optometry. She earned her doctorate, with honors, from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. After graduation, Dr. Esmail went on to complete a residency focusing on ocular disease at the Baltimore VA. She and her husband (who is also an optometrist) then moved to Chapel Hill and have been practicing in the area since 2005.
Dr. Esmail believes that taking time to educate patients is an integral part of each encounter as it empowers patients to participate in their ocular heath. She enjoys taking care of patients’ visual needs by providing comprehensive eye exams, including management of urgent eye conditions, contact lens fittings/evaluations and co management of LASIK and cataract surgeries.
Dr. Esmail is a member of the American Optometric Association and NC Optometric State Society.
In her down time, she likes traveling, walking, reading, baking and spending time with her husband and their 3 active children.
Dr. Misa Sueyoshi is originally from San Diego, California. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biology from Point Loma Nazarene University before venturing into the field of pre-clinical research in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her passion for eye care led her to Philadelphia, where she completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where she served as class president and contributed to the North Carolina Optometric Student Association.
Dr. Sueyoshi trained in the Triangle area with the goal to practice in North Carolina. She loves working with patients of all ages and is passionate about keeping them educated on their eye health. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina Optometric Society.
In her downtime, Dr. Sueyoshi, along with her fiancé, calls Durham home. Her interests include painting, baking, and home improvement projects.
Dr. Jonathan Reynon, OD was raised in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from the University of Maryland, majoring in Neurobiology and Physiology. Before attending optometry school, Dr. Reynon was an ophthalmic technician at The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where he learned from some of the most innovative surgeons in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Reynon went on to earn his Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, receiving honors for clinical excellence. His training primarily focused on primary care optometry and ocular disease. Dr. Reynon’s rotations and specialty training included Katzen Eye Group in Towson, Maryland, the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, and Eye Care Associates in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dr. Reynon specializes in Keratoconus and Difficult to Fit and Medically Necessary Contact Lenses, Myopia Control and Ortho-K, and Diabetic Eye Care. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina Optometric Society.
Outside of work, Dr. Reynon enjoys playing sports, cheering for his favorite sports teams, and spending time with his wife and two young daughters. Dr. Reynon is proud to consider Cary, NC his new home.
Dr. Monica Ma was raised in Cary, NC. She graduated from William G. Enloe High School in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Biology and Psychology. After college, Dr. Ma obtained another bachelor of science in Visual Science and her Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. In school, she was active in many extracurricular activities, including community service and received clinical honors multiple semesters. At graduation, Dr. Ma received additional awards for her level of clinical excellence.
It has been a long time goal for Dr. Ma to return to North Carolina and practice optometry in the state that she grew up in. Prior to founding Parkside Eye Care, Dr. Ma worked at a private practice in rural North Carolina for five years. She feels excited and blessed for the opportunity to serve the local community through excellent eye care. Dr. Ma specializes in glaucoma evaluations, dry eye evaluations, and iLux treatment. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina Optometric Society.
Dr. Ma and Dr. Reynon married shortly after optometry school and are parents to two wonderful little girls. They reside here in West Cary.
Dr. Chen grew up in Fayetteville, NC, and graduated high school at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at NC State University and obtained her doctorate at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. After optometry school, she completed a residency in primary care and ocular disease at the W. G. (Bill) Hefner VA Hospital in Salisbury, NC.
Dr. Chen is an avid sports fan and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Erin A. Jackson was born and raised in Burlington, NC, and is a graduate of Williams High School. She completed her undergraduate work from North Carolina State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. From there she went on to achieve her Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN.
Outside of work, Dr. Jackson enjoys hanging out with her husband and their four wonderful children.
